Social Media Murray Mania!

Seventy seven years is a long time to wait for a champion…

For the first time since Perry beat von Cramm in 1936, there is finally a British Men’s Wimbledon champion. There was however no way for people to tweet back in the post-war days, word of mouth was the only real social media. Who knows what the reaction would’ve been if there was such a platform with the right technology back then!

Sunday’s finale saw Andy Murray beat Serb Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6,4 7,5 and 6,4 and the Scot also hit some huge social  returns as fans engaged online. Here are some of the key highlights:

-Andy’s dis belief at his achievement expressed via a tweet:

“Can’t believe what’s just happened!!!!!!!”

(retweeted 54,954 by Sunday evening)

-@adidasUK: “After the hurt, pain and tears. He came back. Stronger. Faster. Better. #allinformurray the 2013 Wimbledon Champion”

@andyroddick: “Pretty sure @andy_murray might have to change his twitter name to @sirandymurray …… Well played and deserved!”

- Andy achieves approximately 1,100,000 tweets about him throughout the tournament
