Oh the weather outside is frightful, but my Instagram is so delightful!
Christmas has arrived on our doorstep, sneaking up on us like Santa’s sleigh.
Before the boom of social media in the last decade, Christmas was initially announced by the introduction of yuletide tunes on the radio stations. Fast forward to 2014 and all of the popular platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are flooded with images and comments displaying the upcoming festivities. Gone are the days where the first signal of wintry celebrations were hearing Mariah Carey’s guilty pleasure, as she danced with reindeer-dogs and gave her look of constant surprise every time she spotted the camera. This sudden influx of Christmas related material is impossible to escape and truly highlights to everyone that St. Nicholas is well on his way! The recent rise in social media attention towards the holiday season certainly causes a buzz amongst most individuals who are keen to get into the Christmas spirit!
From images of those posing in their exuberant Christmas jumpers, to comments of Friday night plans with friends, the markets are the perfect place to encourage social activity on a mass scale.
Last week saw a number of seasonal-themed markets officially open to the public around the globe. A recent result, ranked the world-famous Manchester Markets at sixth place on a prestigious list of equivalent international venues. Although the stalls seen at these Christmas displays have an authentic and traditional feel to them, there are signs that the tides are slowly changing.
