About one year ago the eyes of the world watched as the best athletes on the planet competed for the biggest prizes in global sport. On Sunday the 21st of July 2013, it was the general public who emulated their heroes in the Olympic Stadium. The run itself was a huge success and even included a finish-line marriage proposal! There was of course tonnes of social media activity on the day, with family members and friends posting messages of support to participants from both inside the Olympic Stadium and from home. Runners themselves were also sending in plenty of fantastic pictures of themselves, friends, fellow runners and even celebrities in an around the stadium and running-route.
EventBeat published a total of 112 comments and tweets from Facebook and Twitter, and 35 images from these networks directly onto the two huge 100sqm screens, situated inside the stadium and next to the start line outside the stadium! The ‘Twitter Wall’ was used in between television footage that was filmed live at the event in front of the approximately 30,000 attendance.
